THE TEN SELLING STEPS

Step 1. Meet And Greet: this is where the sales person first greets you and introduces him/herself to you. Most of them will just walk up to ask "can I help you?" But if you get a good one he will say something to the effect. Hi my name is Joe Salesmen welcome to A thru Z dealership and you are? If he/she doesn't write your name down there is a pretty good chance he will forget it 5 mins.into this. If you are comfortable and a little bold you can have a lot of fun with this. For example give him/her a different name each time they ask you. Just a tip to break ice. As a sales person myself I loved to play jokes with my customers just little harmless things.

Step 2. Qualification : This is when they start to ask you a lot of open ended question to get you to talk to them. Example would " What kind of trade do you have?" or "How much are you paying now?" question that prod into your personnel business. Do not let them know very much right now. Even if you are going to trade don't tell them yet. They will try to find common ground with you but thats ok. If you have common ground use it to your advantage. Perhaps you know the same person for example. Tease the salesperson tell him/her you will call that person to find out if he/she can get me the best deal I can get.

Step 3. Selection of the vehicle: Do not let them push you too a particular car or truck. they generally do this because they will make an extra commission or bonus if they sell that unit more than likely it is an old age unit and its starting to show lot rot.  Look at the build date on the car it may be on the M.S.R.P or inside the door jam either way take a second to look at it and assure yourself that you are not buying an old age unit. A lot of times they don't have exactly what you want. This leaves you with a couple of choices to make. The first words out of the salespersons mouth will be "we can find you what you want". This is a last resort. Will tell you more about that later.

Step 4. The demo drive: Always always drive the vehicle you are going to buy even if you drove 50 just like. Drive the unit you intend to buy. No need to let the salesperson know that you want it just take it for a test drive. The sales person will probable have a route they want you to drive. I strongly recommend that you take it on the highway if at all possible try to mimic the kind of driving you do every day to get a good feel for it. The sales person should do very little talking at this time he is looking for you to say things I really like this or i want this. Keep in mind that every new car you look at is going to nice in its own way. especially if you have been driving and older car for a long time. The new ones will look, feel even smell good to you. all of them will be like that so don't fall into that emotional type of buying situation.

Step 5. Resell the car: This is where the salesperson will try some trial closes on you. Example would be "other than price is any reason why you wouldn't take this car home today"?This is where you have to make a decision If you want that car then don't go any further with the deal. Make an excuse or something do not go inside the dealership or just tell the salesperson you don't like the car period they usually don't have a come back for that one. If it is the one you want and your not ready to buy do the same thing just write some notes down. Try to get the stock number off the car it is usually a yellow sticker on the windshield around the rear view mirror. If you plan to return to this dealership it will cut down on time and make sure it is the same one you drove.

Step 6. The write up: This where the salesperson will start to write things down on a work sheet of some sort. They may ask a question like "How do you plan to title your new car". If you do want this car and ready to buy this is a necessary step so don't hesitate to give them the info they will need it.If your not ready be very careful what you give them and under no circumstance do you give them your social security number until you are ready to buy. If you give it to them they can run a credit report on  you. You want to make as few credit inquires as possible.

Step 7. Negotiating: my personnel favorite. Most people really fear this step I will go into more about this later but there are ways to make it short and sweet. I will tell you how later.

Step 8.The Close: This is when you have reached an agreement and you are going to buy this car. The sales person will have several documents to get ready at this time. They will probably give you a credit application. to fill out. It is at this time you will have to reveal your S.S.S.#.Keep an eye on how the salesperson and the people in the dealership handle there paper work you do not want any of your info getting left around. If you don't believe me look around I'll bet in 75% of the dealerships you visit you will see some secure documents just laying around. Even thou there has many documents sent to these dealers about this issue.

Step 9. The Finance office: This is when you will sign all the legal documents pertaining to your deal. I will go into real details later on this step very important to be aware of whats going on.

Step 10. The Delivery: If all went well this is a real good time for you. Your salesperson should go over all the equipment on the car and how it works. Pay attention here even if it is something simple you will want to know how ever thing works. Ask any question you may have. A lot of sales people will try to rush this so they can get another customer to sell. Slow him down you will receive a survey later on and this is a big part of his/her score. Make sure the vehicle is full of gas any new vehicle comes with a full tank of gas. The manufacture pays for it.
